Technical setup does not create demand, but it can block or dilute existing relevance. We review crawlability, indexing, canonicals, hreflang, sitemaps, internal links and performance in the context of the actual market architecture.

Start with crawlability and indexing

Before ranking analysis, define which URLs search engines should access and index. Robots rules, status codes, internal links and sitemaps are checked for conflicts. Staging, filter or parameter URLs should not accidentally compete with the intended market pages.

During a relaunch, old URLs also need meaningful redirects instead of broad mappings to unrelated destinations.

Use canonicals consistently

Canonical tags signal preferred versions among similar URLs. International language pages should not all canonicalize to one language when they contain valid localized content. In most cases each language version uses a self-referencing canonical.

Redirects, internal links and sitemaps should reinforce the same URL preference.

Connect hreflang correctly

hreflang links equivalent language or regional variants. References should be reciprocal and point to indexable canonical URLs. x-default can provide a sensible fallback.

We validate hreflang against the actual page structure rather than treating it as an isolated tag set.

Sitemaps and internal links

XML sitemaps support discovery of canonical URLs but do not replace navigation. Important pages should also be reachable through hubs, breadcrumbs and contextual links. On multilingual sites, the sitemap should remain consistent with canonicals and hreflang.

New cluster pages therefore belong in both the XML sitemap and the visible internal architecture.

Performance and technical quality

Core Web Vitals, responsive behavior and clean HTML contribute to usability and technical resilience. We prioritize by impact: blocked indexing and incorrect canonicals are more urgent than small optimizations with no measurable effect.

Technical SEO becomes a prioritized system rather than an endless checklist.

Example: relaunching a trilingual B2B site

Moving from WordPress to static HTML requires redirects, canonicals, hreflang, sitemaps and status codes to be checked together. A visually strong new site can still lose visibility if migration or language mapping is wrong. Technical migration therefore needs its own workstream.
