B2B buyers use an average of ten channels across the purchase journey, placing search inside a broader information system.
There is no guaranteed placement in ChatGPT Search. A strong foundation includes public pages, access for OAI-SearchBot, clear information structure, useful content and externally credible expertise. The goal is visibility for relevant B2B questions, not merely getting the brand name mentioned.

How ChatGPT Search discovers websites

OpenAI states that any public website can potentially appear in ChatGPT Search. To help content appear in summaries and snippets, OAI-SearchBot should not be blocked, and hosting, firewall and CDN infrastructure must allow crawler access.

Technical access is necessary but not a guarantee. OpenAI explicitly notes that a specific position is not guaranteed. There is therefore no reliable shortcut for ChatGPT visibility; the site has to become a strong source for concrete user questions.

What B2B content can become citable

B2B buyers often ask questions that combine several information needs: Which solution fits a use case? Which vendors exist? How do alternatives differ? What risks, requirements or market conditions matter?

Content becomes more useful when it is specific, structured and verifiable. Original experience, precise definitions, current sources, cases and transparent market information provide more retrieval value than a generic marketing page.

Brand and people as recognizable entities

ChatGPT visibility is not only about individual URLs. B2B companies benefit when brand, services, people, markets and publications are consistently connected. Clear company and team pages, author profiles, internal links and consistent naming make those relationships easier to understand.

This does not mean schema markup creates visibility on its own. Structured data should accurately describe visible content. The core expertise must exist on the page itself and is stronger when reputable external sources also support the company or topic.

What queries we test in ChatGPT

We do not only test the company name. Unbranded questions are often more valuable because they reflect real research tasks: problem questions, solution categories, market questions, vendor comparisons and specialist topics. This shows where the company already appears and which sources dominate the information space.

These tests are snapshots. Answers can change and may not be identical for every user. We therefore document query, date, language, market, cited sources and type of mention rather than drawing broad conclusions from one screenshot.

From observation to optimization

When relevant questions do not retrieve suitable owned or external sources, we diagnose the gap first: Is there no matching page? Is access blocked? Is the content too generic? Is evidence missing? Is the brand barely present in the topic ecosystem?

Actions then follow from the diagnosis: improve content specificity, close expertise gaps, strengthen author and company relationships, improve internal linking, add primary sources or publish material that answers an underserved buyer question more clearly.

From analysis to action

1Define relevant buyer and research questions.
2Review technical access and existing sources.
3Prioritize content, entity and source gaps.
4Monitor visibility by system and iterate actions.

Further AI visibility building blocks

AI Search for B2B

AI search is not a separate universe from SEO. Visibility still depends on indexable pages, clear information architecture, useful content, credible evidence and consistent expertise. The difference is that systems can retrieve sources across multiple subquestions and comparison tasks.

Sources, Entities and Mentions

A clear entity is not created by adding as much schema markup as possible. It comes from consistent naming, unambiguous profiles, strong internal relationships, credible primary information and relevant external mentions. Structured data helps describe visible content in machine-readable form.

Measuring AI Visibility in B2B

We measure AI visibility by system and query set. This combines first-party data such as Bing AI Performance and Google Search Console with documented prompts, source observation and buyer-intent classification. A single “AI visibility score” can be an internal model, but it is not objective truth.

Connecting SEO and AI Visibility

Google confirms that SEO fundamentals remain relevant for generative search features. We therefore treat AI visibility as an extension of the search and content system: the same strong pages, a broader source perspective, more complex buyer questions and system-specific measurement.

Content for AI Answer Systems

We do not use a special AI copy style. We improve information density, definitions, section clarity, primary sources, examples and internal relationships. Google continues to recommend helpful original content and says special AI files or AI-specific markup are not required for its generative search features.

When buyers use ChatGPT for market, vendor or solution research, the entry point into the buying journey changes. The practical question is not how to “optimize one answer”, but how to make a company a credible and accessible source for relevant research situations.
